Paul Mitchell

1965 - 2003

Paul joined Alveston Cricket Club during the 2000 season.

Having moved into the village (typically choosing a house adjacent to the cricket and football pitches) Paul immediately introduced himself to the cricket club. Very soon it was apparent that he was probably one of the best batsmen ever to play for us. A supurb sportsman, in every sense of the word, Paul was liked and admired by everyone associated with the club.

During the 2001 season it was mainly down to Paul's efforts that Alveston made it to the Bristol and District Plate final. Unfortunately, Paul was not able to share in the triumph of that day because the recent headaches he had been suffering were diagnosed as a brain tumour. Despite being given just a few months to live Paul fought on valiantly until January 2003.

Before he died Paul helped to set up the charity "Hammered Out" (named after his beloved West Ham United) to support research into the causes and treatment of brain tumours. Alveston Cricket Club will continue to support Hammered Out during the seasons to come.
