MINUTES OF A MEETING OF THE PLAYING FIELDS AND OPEN SPACES COMMITTEE

HELD ON 7th November 2005 AT 7.30 p.m. IN THE BUSH ROOM

PRESENT: -       Councillor. A Wilkins(Chairman), Councillor J Head Councillor J Cutland, Councillor M Webb,  Councillor John Veasey

                                    Mr R Fergyson (Clerk)

1     Acceptance of apologies for absence:

        Councillor. J Rodell (Holiday),

2     Minutes of previous meeting

The Minutes of the meeting held on 1st August 2005 were approved and signed by the Chairman.

3  Matters arising.

Milenium Stone by St Helens Church

The shrubs by the church adjacent to the A38 have been trimmed harder to enable good visibility. The main problem is the growth of some of the shrubs being greater than others. Garden manicures do respond to a call out, but only trim part of the hedge, a request to trim it all will be made.

4     Play area Work

The variegated tree on the boundary with the car park and children’s play area has green leaves on some branches. Councillor Mike Webb is waiting for the tree surgeon’s visit, but knows which green areas need trimming.

The planting around the edge of the play area with Ptentials may prove a problem as the current trend is for those, which only grow 24 inches; Councillor Mike Webb will investigate the supply of Euonymus.

The grass cutting is falling behind the expected standard. This is the subject of a meeting arranged between the Clerk and Garden Manicures as part of the general review. The main problem is that the contractors expect the grass cutting to have finished by now. The work, which should be carried out, is hedge trimming, but the hedges are still growing. The clerk expects to get agreement that the grass is cut regularly and the other work carried out as expected.

This also applies to the cemetery.

5     Annual Inspection

The inspection was carried out and the inspector report received. This should have been given to this meeting; it will now be given to the next. There were no high priority problems, but provision needs to be made to meet any repair or replacement.

6           Cemetery

General maintenance in the cemetery is good, but recently due to the weather the grass is still growing quite fast and still need to be trimmed.

7     Field users meeting October 10th 7.30.

The field users notes of the meeting were read, and agreed.

        The main points arising were.

The footballers are pleased with the overall condition of the playing surface and the changing facilities, but the parish store lock is difficult.

The Cricket club had a good season, but some problems with keeping footballers off the cricket square. The problem is thought to lie with visiting sides.

8     Any other Business

The field has been sprayed, but the situation is such that weeds are still growing

The council agreed that the new seat would be placed by the Jubilee hall.

As far as the responsibility for the iron fence is concerned, there are no records of the parish owning it, the maps just indicate a boundary.

The Cricket club received a donation of £230.

The yellow lines around the areas of the jubilee hall need to be re-marked, could this be combined with re-marking the lines in the car park. The Clerk will investigate the yellow line paint and machine in the Jubilee Hall loft.

There being no other business the meeting closed at 8.15pm.
